12 kilometres and 1.500 altitude metres downhill on the mountain bike freeride trails
The three freeride trails at the Kitzsteinhorn offer pure variety on a total of 1.500 altitude metres and 12 kilometres:
All the way downhill! And that with the greatest pleasure! Because after a leisurely ride up the mountain with modern cable cars, trails full of variety lead back downhill into the valley. Three freeride trails full of variety ensure first-class downhill fun for enduro bikers. You start at the Geißstein Trail at the Alpincenter 2,450 m above sea level in high alpine environment and enjoy the gentle, green alpine pastures of this vegetation zone from Langwied already. Further down, it gets tricky and rooty when you reach the tree line on the Wüstlau Trail with technically challenging passages. The sophisticated Bachler Trail leads down into the valley to the picturesque Klammsee reservoir. From there, it's a leisurely return to the lower terminus, because freeriders and their bikes float uphill to the start of the trails quickly and in comfort by cable car.
The Maiskogel-Trail is the ideal option for biking sports beginners. Starting at the MK Maiskogelbahn mountain station at 1,570 metres above sea level. The trail meanders gently and well-developed over 4.6 kilometres through wide and narrow banked curves, waves and smaller jumps to the finish at the MK Maiskogelbahn Stanger station 1,137 m above sea level. There you can decide right away whether to have another go and float back to the start relaxed by using the MK Maiskogelbahn or to return to the centre of Kaprun.
The trails on the Kitzsteinhorn are open from around mid-June to mid-September, the trail on the Maiskogel can be used depending on the operating hours of the MK Maiskogelbahn.
All bike tours on the Kitzsteinhorn and Maiskogel can be combined perfectly with the cable cars up- & downhill.
Freeride trails
Freeride mountain bikers are treated to the experience they’ve been hoping for on this variety-packed trail spanning 413 vertical meters and a total distance of 1.9 kilometers. You can reach the starting point of the trail either by means of the Langwied lift station on the Kitzsteinhorn (please note: involves a short climb) or via the Maiskogel/Astenweg. The Bachler Trail ends at picturesque Klammsee lake. From there, a road brings you back to the valley station of the Kitzsteinhorn Gletscherjet as well as in the direction of Kaprun to the valley station of the MK Maiskogelbahn.
Level: Difficult / challenging
The Wüstlau Trail takes you from the Langwied (1,976 m) all the way down to the valley, dropping a fabulous 1,100 vertical meters with a total distance of 6.5 kilometers. Freeriders need lots of stamina and skill for this ride, since the extra-long trail leads across alpine pastures as well as forest stretches with loose stones and exposed roots, while you will also have to tackle the occasional sharp hairpin turn in the steep section as well.
Level: Difficult / challenging
You will have to negotiate 492 vertical meters on this over 3.4 kilometers-long high-alpine trail starting at the Alpincenter at 2,450 m. Firstly, you will ride at speed over the pistes and small jumps. This is followed by rocky, technically challenging passages as far as the Langwied at 1,976 m. The Geißstein Trail ends here, though with two different variants feeding into the Wüstlau Trail.
Level: Difficult / challenging
Trail Maiskogel
The built Maiskogel-Trail is the ideal option for biking sports beginners. The starting point is right at the MK Maiskogelbahn mountain station at 1,570 metres above sea level. The trail meanders gently and well-developed over 3.7 kilometres through wide and narrow banked curves, waves and smaller jumps to the finish at the MK Maiskogelbahn Stanger terminus 1,137 m above sea level.
