Mountainbike freeride trails
As soon as the winter season comes to an end for freeriders in late Spring on the Kitzsteinhorn, the mountain bikes are saddled. The extra long, high alpine downhill run from the Alpincenter to the valley is 12 km long with a difference of 1500 altitude meters. The Geißstein-, Wüstlau- and Bachler trails are pure action and biking fun! Uphill riders can enjoy 1.952 altitude meters to the Alpincenter at 2.450 m.
Depending on the amount of snow still on the Kitzsteinhorn, the high alpine trails are open from mid June until mid September. You ride over sometimes technically difficult terrain requiring good control over your bike, technical knowledge and suitable equipment. Uphill riders can take the Astenweg from Kaprun over the Maiskogel to the Alpincenter at 2.450 m. From there it is possible to take a lift down again.
Three diversified trails for mountainbikers
The Bachler Trail runs mainly through untouched nature, is relatively easy, 5.200 m long and covers 600 altitude meters. All beginners get their money´s worth here. A suitable uphill bike is recommended as the trail has a short steep climb and ends at the Klammsee.
The Wüstlau Trail is, with a length of 7.700 m and 1070 altitude meters, a very long trail which runs from the Häusl Alm over high meadows and through forest into the valley. This sometimes technically very difficult trail contains sharp curves, tight curves and some passages with lots of rocks and roots.
The high alpine Geißstein Trail is 3.144 m long and runs 500 altitude meters downhill from the Alpincenter to the Häusl Alm. The Geißstein trail is fast, with some tight curves, many small jumps and breathtaking panoramic views.
The Kitzsteinhorn service has mountainbike Info points, right at the start of the trails and at the valley station. They give information about the route and the all important facts about downhill biking. Signposts and danger warnings are positioned right on the route. At the valley station and the Langwiedboden there are two wash-points available. At the Alpincenter at 2.450 m above sea level an E-Bike charging station is waiting.
